Upon receiving a distress call for AutoCAD 2010 not connecting to the license server on a computer, I investigated the issue only to come up with: Error -5.412.0
Since there were multiple computers all connecting to the same server without a problem, I decided the computer affected had it's own issues as opposed to my fear that the "license server" was having problems. Doing the good ol' Google search on the issue, I came across an Autodesk forum where someone suggested deleting the CASCADEINFO.CAS file from the computer. Not having anything to lose at this point, I decided instead to rename the file and not delete it. Once I re-opened the AutoCAD 2010 software, the computer connected to the server without a problem!
So, all credit goes to the suggesting individual of the problem, but I am attempting to get more exposure to the fix as well as document the fix for future use.
Windows XP Navigate to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Adlm
Windows 7 (Vista?) Navigate to:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\AdLM
Rename or Delete:
CASCADEINFO.CAS
Once this file is deleted: Restart AutoCAD 2010
Additional locations where you can find this file (as posted in the comments below) are:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2010\R18.0\Adlm\
Keep in mind this issue really only applies to the -5.412.0 error at this point, unless there are other error codes you know of that will fix this problem.
Also, as of 2010-May-11, there is an update 2 for AutoCAD 2010. I personally have not had a chance to try this update (or looked into the changelog) to see if it fixes this re-occurring problem, but it might be worth a shot. If anyone knows (or has had luck) with the update, please feel free to leave a comment below and let us know :)

Thanks a lot! From Canada with love!
Hello
We have the latest version of AutoCAD 2010 with update 2 inbuilt in the setup file.
Ours is a network licence.
We are getting the error message [-5.412.0]
There is no CASCADEINFO.CAS file in the entire Autodesk folder..
How to solve this problem..
Thank you Thank you Thank you
Fantastic, deleted CASCADEINFO.CAS and guess what, it worked, saved me hours of trudging around trying to find a fix.
Well done!
This page is the #1 result when you google this error, for a reason. I tried it, restarted Revit, ran fine. We've got two labs running the software, pushing out a patch isn't going to be that easy for a few months, this simple fix can be done by anyone with staff access.
Olá phil.

Hello Phil.

Congratulations for posting.
Good luck
So simple. Thanx for posting this.
Checked!
Works on Windows 7 64-bit, Inventor suite 2010 PRO
Thank you, friend!
From Russia with love!
I had the same problem with Revit Structure 2011.
Due to a crashe on the system, the license manager didn't got any message that Revit was logged out from the license system.
Thanks Much!
After a brief power outage while using AutoCAD 2011, I got the above error message. Uninstalling/Reinstalling AutoCAD 2011 didn't fix the problem. Renaming the CASCADEINFO.CAS file finally did the trick. And interestingly after successfully starting AutoCAD 2011 a new CASCADEINFO.CAS file was created, and now I'm able to open ALL of my Autodesk software on the machine.
Thank you for posting this fix.
I've just found these file
There is an other path , because the file structure system in Win7 is others then XP
just enable all hidden files in the folder view
c:\ProgramData\Autodesk\AdLM\CascadeInfo.cas
after deleting or renaming this file, system will make the new one.
So, I have the same problem you described above, but I've Win7
and these patch doesn't exist
:-(
there is no CASCADEINFO.CAS in the file system structure
:-(
I 've been going on Autodesk Inventor 2011 Pro with Vault enabled
the license was borrowed up to 2011.05
there is 15 seats, the same hardware, the same OS, ... everything
only one from these was corrupted.
What next?
Works for AutoCad 2011 also! Thanks heaps
Sure does :) Thanks a million OP
