HP All-In-One "status.msi" Fix

Working on a client's computer recently, I decided to run the HP Update software. After successfully installing a few items, along with some windows updates, I rebooted the computer, only to find a dialogue box asking for the location of status.msi. Ugh! I don't know what it is about HP software developers, but they need to be fired! I'm yet to see a piece of software come from HP that is actually worth $0.02...

Intel 865 Video Drivers for Windows 7 & Vista

I've had the opportunity to test out Windows 7 and I must say, I really like what I see! Not only is it quick, but the engineers at Microsoft have finally begun to realize that their software needs to make sense!

Enough of the Kudos, I still personally believe that Microsoft has a long way to go before they ever get a clue... so, on to the topic at hand: Getting the Intel 865 video drivers to work on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Port 80 In Use By Another Server

Programs to check if port 80 is being used by another program, but no known webservers are installed (ie apache or IIS)

Installing Uniform Server, it would not run on port 80, giving an error that there was another program using port 80. After doing some research, I came across two programs which might be the problem:

  • Skype (uses port 80 & 443)
  • AVG 8.5 (Active Link-Shield)

Change the port on Skype to resolve the conflict

Disable the AVG Active Link-Shield to resolve the conflict

How I Fixed "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network" G1

First off, I want to say that I LOVE my Android based G1!! It is the best phone I have ever owned!

Ok, with that being said, I was driving home late one evening and ran into the horrifying issue of "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network" which is apparently specific to the G1... Some people have reported that they receive this while roaming but as far as I know, I was never in an area of roaming...

Unpublishing a Node on Drupal: "Rules" vs. "Node Expire"

I recently created a classified website (Jan 2009) that is dedicated to used asphalt equipment. One of the features I wanted on the site, was the ability to transparently expire a node after x days (45 to be exact). The well known craigslist.org has a similar feature where a post would expire after 45 days but they recently changed it to 30. I'm guessing there are so many posts being put out that most people only look at the first few days.
